Delete your KaamShaam account

KaamShaam is a shared shopping list for a household. This page explains how to delete your KaamShaam account, what that removes, what stays with your household, and how long anything is kept.

Delete it from inside the app

This is the quickest way, and it takes effect immediately.

  1. Open KaamShaam and go to the Household tab.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Tap Delete account.
  5. Confirm it is you: your password, or the Google or Facebook account you sign in with.
  6. Type DELETE in the box, then tap Delete my account.
  7. Your phone will ask for your fingerprint, face or screen lock.

You are asked for your password again on the last step. That is deliberate: deleting an account cannot be undone, and it should not be possible to do it to someone who left their phone unlocked on a table.

If you no longer have the app installed

Email support@wewiselabs.com and ask for your account to be deleted. Send it from the email address the account uses — that address is how the account is identified, and it is the only way to confirm the request is coming from you.

Include:

  • The email address on the account, written out — in case you are sending from a different one.
  • A sentence saying you want the account deleted.

You will get a reply confirming it is done. If the request arrives from an address that is not on the account, you will be asked to send it again from the right one before anything is deleted. Requests are handled within 30 days.

What is deleted

  • Your account - your email address, your display name and your password.
  • Every signed-in session, on every device. Anything still signed in is signed out.
  • Every device registered for notifications, so your phone stops receiving them straight away rather than whenever its token happens to expire.
  • Any outstanding email verification or password-reset codes.

What is not deleted

The household's shopping data — its items, its list and what has been bought — is shared property. It belongs to everyone in the household, not to any one member, so it is not destroyed when one person leaves. Your membership of the household ends and you disappear from it; the list the others are still shopping from does not.

If you are the person who created the household

Deleting your account closes the household for everyone in it.

A KaamShaam household has exactly one owner, and there is currently no way to hand that role to somebody else. With the owner gone the household has nobody who can administer it, so it is closed along with every membership in it and any invitation still outstanding. The other members lose access to the shared list.

If the household should carry on without you, ask the other members to start a new one and rebuild the list before you delete your account.

How long anything is kept

Your account stops working the moment you delete it. You are signed out everywhere, notifications stop, and the email address is free to be used for a new account straight away.

The record itself is kept for 30 days and is then stripped automatically: the email address, the display name, the password and any linked Google or Facebook account are removed, and what remains is an anonymous reference that no longer identifies anybody. Removing the link is also what frees that Google or Facebook account to start a fresh account here later. The stripping runs on a schedule rather than on a stopwatch, so it happens shortly after the30 days rather than to the minute.

It is stripped rather than removed outright because the household's own data points at it — the list records who added an item and who bought it. Deleting the record entirely would mean deleting the shared items along with it, which is exactly what the section above promises not to do. What is removed is everything that identifies you; what is left is a reference with nobody behind it.

Backups taken before the deletion may still hold the old data until they age out on their own schedule. They are never used to restore a deleted account.
